Markus "Mark" J. Smith

Markus J. Smith, 52, of Owego passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 9, 2017.  He is predeceased by his mother, Jeannine Smith.  Mark is survived by wife of 8 years, Katie Smith; daughter, Kailey Smith; father, Mark Smith; step mother,  Leta Smith; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Christine Smith and Robert and Diane Smith; sister, Laurie Smith; mother- in-law, Pam Van Vorce; two sisters- in- law,  Ashley Van Vorce and Summer Van Vorce; four nieces, Cassandra, Emily, Hannah and Abby; two step sisters, Diane and Sara as well as several cousins.  Mark was employed for 16 years as a lieutenant for Johnson City Fire Department, a job he loved.  He was an avid hunter and loved his blood hound, Gunnar.  Mark was very active outdoorsman and he would encourage everyone to go outdoors as often as possible. Friends and family may call at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, Friday from 5PM-7PM.  The family will receive friends again on Saturday from 10AM-11AM at Johnson City Primitive Methodist Church, 4 Ackley Ave., Johnson City.  Funeral services will follow at 11AM with Rev. Kidd officiating.  In lieu of flowers, an education contribution fund has been set up for his daughter Kailey Smith.
