William Ellis Obituary

William Norman Ellis passed away unexpectedly at his Binghamton home on February 26, 2024. William, who was known to family and friends as Bill, was born at Binghamton General Hospital on November 22, 1925 to parents Edna and Frank Ellis. Bill attended Johnson City Schools until ninth grade. While serving in the US military, Bill was stationed in Okinawa, Japan and earned the WWII Victory Medal as well as the Army of Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged and eventually went to work for Endicott Johnson for 11 years. Bill later attended night classes for machinery at North High in Binghamton which allowed him to work as a machinist for Stow Manufacturing for 30 years. Bill was a member of Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church and American Legion Post 357. He enjoyed hunting, western movies, Cracker Barrel, helping others and sharing stories. He was a kind, hard working, simple man with good intentions and a heart of gold. Healthy, active and independent right up until his last day, he amazed anyone who was lucky enough to have met him. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Agnes and his son, Andrew, and is survived by his daughter, Jackie, sisters Sally Kulik, Elizabeth Orzel, and Lucille Crawford and several nieces and nephews. Bill was a blessing to his friends and family and will be especially missed by long time friends, Vicki and Spence and neighbors, Linda, Richie, Joyce, Denise and Heather. In lieu of flowers, Bill's wish was for donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital whom he proudly supported for 30 years. A viewing will be held at J.F. Rice Funeral Home in Johnson City on Saturday, March 2 at 10:30am followed by a funeral service at 11:00am and burial at Holy Spirit Cemetery where Bill will join Agnes and Andrew at their final resting place.
