Elaine Johnson Obituary

ENDICOTT - In sure and certain hope of resurrection, Elaine Amy (Burgess) Johnson passed away on October 11, 2021 in Endicott, NY; she was 96. Born in Johnson City, New York, on January 29, 1925, she was the second of four daughters to Lowell Rodney Burgess and Ruth Barnum Burgess. She graduated from Johnson City High School. Elaine was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years,Anthony (Tony) G. Johnson (1998), by her adoring daughter, Cheryl E. Labban (2017), and her beloved sister, Juanita Homer (2016). Elaine and Tony were active members of the West Chenango United Methodist Church throughout their lifetime. During and after a long career with Berman’s Motor Express, she traveled extensively within the USA and in Europe. Trips in Europe were accompanied by Cheryl and her family, who lived in Italy, and would include road and train adventures retracing Tony’s stations during World War II, exploring small mountain towns and sharing the experience of discovering the beauty and historical wonders of Europe. The family traveled through Italy, France, England, Austria and Germany, creating a lifetime of memories and passing down the importance of family, adventure and a good photo album. Summers always included a week in the Adirondack mountains where the Burgess sisters would come together joined by their children and grandchildren to share meals, sing-alongs and the outdoors. Elaine is survived by her son-in-law, Muntasir Labban, of Endwell, NY; granddaughter, Danya Labban, granddaughter-in-law, Tina Chandna, and her family, great grandchildren, Ella and Greyson, all of New York, NY; sister Shirley Jones of Gouverneur, NY; sister, Ila Jean Popple, of Gainesville, FL, numerous loving nieces, nephews and countless family and friends from her lifetime in the community, as well as her participation in the Harmony Club of Binghamton, and Antique Society.
