John Skiba Sr passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Sunday November 20th, 2022, at the age of 90. He was born in Binghamton, NY to Joseph and Anna Skiba. He is predeceased by his wife, Beverly (Pier)Skiba; his sisters Anna Yevchak, Margaret Guzy, Rose Figura and Mary Smith and brother Joseph Skiba. He is survived by son John (Darlene) Skiba, stepson Jack (Vivian) Pier, granddaughter Kassandra Skiba, great-granddaughter Kameron Johnson-Skiba and several nieces and nephews.
John served Honorably in the US Army (29th infantry regiment) during the Korean War and was stationed in Okinawa after training camp He was first employed by McNierney Tire Company and then later for Belknap Lumber and finally Allied Moving. John greatly enjoyed the hard work, especially for Belknap.
John was a long-time hunter and also enjoyed fishing and in his spare time, puttering around in his own version of a man cave, his garage. He also greatly enjoyed talking to people and had many entertaining stories to share that he gathered over his many years of travel. John was also devoted to his cats and often fed the local wildlife and even bought treats for his neighbor's dogs. He was generous to a fault and in spite of a limited formal education, he displayed great intelligence and his ability to remember almost all the local streets and how they intersected was amazing. He will be greatly missed by all.
The family will receive family and friends at the JF Rice Funeral Home, 150 Main St. Johnson City, NY on Monday November 28, 2022, from 9 - 10am with services to follow.
