Jon Jacob Yerger, age 75, was born on December 16, 1946, to Margaret (Monkovich) and Richard Yerger in Binghamton, New York. He had fond memories of growing up in Saratoga Terrace along with his brother Richard Michael. Blessed with an impressive wit, a love of science, and a determination to achieve a potential beyond his humble beginnings, he graduated from Binghamton North High School. He pursued his passion for electronics at Broome Technical College, then continued his education at Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating Magna Cum Laude in Electrical Engineering. During his time at RIT, he co-opped with IBM, where he would later work for thirty-two years. While at RIT, he met a nurse, and ten months later, he and Gretchen were wed. He served as a computer programmer when he was drafted into the army during the Vietnam War. They returned to Endicott, New York where they raised their family. In his personal life, Jon was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Endicott, where he served for many years as a Deacon and Elder. He participated in many walk-a-thons for the MS Society. He sat on the board of EDST (Earth Day Southern Tier) and eventually worked as Chair of the committee for several of their annual events. His involvement with EDST inspired him to help establish V.I.N.E.S (Volunteers Improving Neighborhood Environments Sustainably). Jon is survived by his loving wife of 51 memorable years, Gretchen (Howe) Yerger and children Jenna Neal (Everett Neal), Joshua Yerger (Hazel Wulff-Yerger), and Jeremy Yerger (Caroline Yerger), and neice Amy Yerger.
