Michael J. Dellapenna

JOHNSON CITY - Michael J. Dellapenna, 72, of Johnson City, NY passed away peacefully on March 8, 2023. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty Dellapenna, his first wife Winifred Dean Dellapenna, his beloved partner Joan LaDue, brother-in-law George Bauman, sister-inlaw Janet Dellapenna, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins of the Dellapenna and Savich families. He is survived by his sister, Sandra Bauman (Donald), brother Bart Dellapenna (Sharon), brother John Dellapenna, niece Stephanie DuBrava (David), nephew Steven Bauman (Jamie), niece Tiana Dellapenna(Jerred), nieces Reese and Oksana Dellapenna, stepdaughter Julie Jenkins, aunt Roseann Dellapenna and several cousins. Michael was a 1969 graduate of Johnson City High School, attended college, and went on to become an expert heavy machine operator for various local construction companies. Michael’s true love was music, and he was a master accordionist. His first jobs were his music gigs with local polka bands in the 60’s and 70’s, and he went on to become a solo artist in the Binghamton area for more than 40 years. He especially enjoyed his earlier years jamming with life-long friend Brad Nemcek, and later with Mike Caruso. Michael cherished his time with the LaDue family, especially with the grandchildren. They loved him and treated him like a Grandpa, and special mention goes out to Abby LaDue, who was a devoted caregiver to him for the past year. His heart was bigger than his stomach, and he was a constant joker and prankster. Beautiful music could often be heard emanating from the hills of Endicott whenever Michael was in the area. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to UHS-Wilson staff and doctors, especially those on NT-2. A funeral Mass will be offered 10:30 AM Wednesday March 15th at St James Church Johnson City New York. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church Wednesday from 9:30 AM until the time of the service. Arrangements are by the JF Rice Funeral Home 150 Main Street Johnson City New York.
